The L’Atelier Engine: architecture overview

L’Atelier is built on three layers, each solving a distinct part of the “from requirements to delivered parts” problem.

Layer 1 — The L’Atelier Engine: This is the core optimization engine. It takes mission requirements and constraints, builds a parametric model, and searches the design space using multi-objective genetic algorithms (NSGA-II). Each candidate is evaluated through a full physics pipeline: AeroSandbox for aerodynamics, CadQuery for geometry, and a custom 6-DOF flight dynamics model with auto-tuned PIDs.

Layer 2 — Engineering Marketplace: Design outputs are routed to qualified engineers for review. The marketplace handles automated matching by specialty, review workflows, revision history, and audit trails. Human oversight without the bottleneck.

Layer 3 — Manufacturing Network: Approved designs are sent to qualified fabs matched to the required materials, processes, and lead times. From 3D printing to CNC to composites — the network handles one-off prototypes to full production runs.

The three layers form a single loop: requirements in, delivered parts out. No tool changes, no file format conversions, no handoff friction.
